The installation is inspired by the oriental belly dancing style. Users are encouraged to wear the belt and dance. The music of the project consists of recordings of oriental instruments (darbouka and hand cymbals). Contradictory to the conventional dance paradigm, the music keeps up with the user’s belly dancing rhythm. While the system gives this freedom, it also creates auditory feedback to the user. Thus, the user can dance freely, as long as the manipulated sound fits the users’ auditory aesthetics.
Exhibited at Amber’08 Arts and Technology Festival and Bodig’09 Bodies of Synthesis.
